Director’s Senior Research Fellowship

in theoretical or computational studies on 2D materials at the National University of Singapore

The Centre for Advanced 2D Materials is looking for one or more advanced postdoctoral research fellows to design and carry out an independent research program in collaboration with two or more of the Principal Investigators within its theory group.  This position offers internationally competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience.  The initial contract has the duration of two years and is afterwards renewable yearly, conditioned on a favourable annual performance evaluation review.  The first contract may begin at any time from September 2016.

The CA2DM theory group comprises physicists, material scientists and engineers working towards understanding and predicting properties of atomically thin materials and their heterostructures. Candidates will pursue an original research proposal that includes some overlap with the research interests of at least two of the following theorists at the center: Albert Gengchiau, Antonio Castro Neto, Feng Yuan Ping, Hsin Lin, Mansoor Bin Abdul Jalil, Pinaki Sengupta, Quek Su Ying, Shaffique Adam, Vitor Pereira and Zhang Chun. More information about them can be found here.

CA2DM was created for the conception, characterization, theoretical modeling, and development of transformative technologies based on two-dimensional crystals, such as graphene.  Aimed at being a world leader in innovative and emergent materials science, with strong ties to the industry and academia, the centre will directly contribute to a new generation of scientists and engineers who will have a permanent impact in the society and business enterprise landscape of Singapore, and worldwide.

Candidates must have a PhD in either theoretical or computational physics or a closely related field, relevant postdoctoral experience and a strong track record of publishing high impact work. Overlap of interests with experimental groups at the center or a track record of experimental collaboration is desirable.

Interested candidates must submit their application materials online, and this must include the following:

  • One page narrative description of past research performance and its broader impact;
  • Original research proposal (no more than 5 pages) highlighting potential overlap with existing researchers at the center;
  • Resume (no more than 5 pages excluding list of publications);
  • List of publications;
  • List of at least 3 references that we may contact in connection with this application.
